Week #5 The World According To Wayne

I have always admired the many tree carvings in Orangeville. I ventured out with my camera so that I could share the beauty and craftsmanship of a select few. There are well over 50 carvings done by 19 different artists so it would be impossible to feature each and everyone.

Many of the sculptures honour a special individual such as the “Story Teller” located at the Orangeville Library that was commissioned by friends of Marilyn Doekes who was a former teacher. Some sculptures were created as a tribute to special event or anniversary. One example is the “Musicians” sculpture in Alexander Park that was erected in recognition of the Blues and Jazz Festival’s 10th anniversary.

The Orangeville Art Walk of Tree Sculptures brochure is available at the Orangeville Town Hall and some of the local stores. Within the brochure there are clear descriptions of each sculpture. The brochure states the location and significance of all the sculptures with the exception of a few that were just recently added.

A recent addition is the beautiful sculpture located at the Tourism Centre. This particular sculpture needs to be examined up close to be truly appreciated. The detail and historical information that is imbedded into the tree trunk is truly an incredible work of art. Town Council just recently commissioned the creation of a sculpture featuring lacrosse legend Terry Sanderson.

The 19 artists certainly have contributed a very special and unique feature to the Town of Orangeville. Click Here to see the photos I took on my tour.
