The big 150 is here! Celebrations for Canada’s 150th birthday will be taking place coast to coast and multiple special events honoring the 150 are scheduled throughout the entire year. What a great country we live in. The Mullin Group is so proud to be Canadian! We’re sure you have heard about Canada 150, but we want to make sure we give you some useful information to help you make Canada’s 150th birthday a memorable one!

First things first, have you ordered your free 2017 Discovery Pass yet? If not, click here to get started! This will give you unlimited access to enjoy National Marine Conservation Area, and National Historic Sites across Canada. The pass comes in the mail, and can take up to 8 weeks to receive it. All you need is one pass per vehicle, and display the pass on your rear view mirror. Unfortunately the pass doesn’t apply to provincial, municipal or private parks. This pass comes with a handy map noting the national parks, and is separated by province. Your pass is valid until December 31, 2017!

The different communities in the Hills of Headwaters have tons of events planned for Canada’s one-five-o! Some of these communities have events commemorating Canada 150 all year long. It is best to check your town websites for detailed information on the events. Shelburne seems to be the hotspot for honoring Canada 150! Below are the highlights of a few events:

Shelburne: Did you know that Shelburne was named one of Canada’s 150 celebration gardens location? Over 400 applications were submitted and our town of Shelburne was 1 of the 150 selected! How exciting! 1000 red and white tulips were planted last fall at Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex. Once the tulips are in full bloom, Shelburne’s garden will participate in Canada’s Garden Route. Shelburne is on a roll with making the big 150 very memorable! Being the fastest growing town in Ontario, Shelburne is definitely putting themselves on the map! Not only was the town selected as a celebration garden, but the town is also participating in the Canada 150 Mosaic Project that will feature 250 Shelburne artists! The mural will be made up of about 400-750 separate tiles! These Canada 150 murals will only be in 5-15 communities per province or territory. The tiles will honor the community of Shelburne and Canada. Each mural across the country will be highlighted in a storybook of photos and be part of Canada 150 National Mosaic Mural! Canada Day fireworks and festivities will take place in Shelburne as well, be sure to reference to the town website closer to the date for full details!

Orangeville: Join in on Orangeville’s celebration at 275 Alder. There will be free activities and fireworks! Family activities are going to be announced on the town website.

You also don’t want to miss out on the fireworks over Island Lake at 10:00p.m.

Erin: The Town of Erin has a great lineup of events for the big day too! There will be a parade up Main St and numerous events being held at the Erin Fairgrounds! The town of Erin is challenging their residents:

1. Best decorated home
2. Best decorated business
3. Best decorated bicycle in parade
4. Best dressed animal in the parade
5. Best float in the parade
