Deputy Chief Leah Gilfoy has been a member of Orangeville Police Service for over eleven months. When she informed me of this during our chat, I chimed in and said I thought it was much longer than that because she has been so engaged in the community upon her arrival.

Deputy Chief Leah comes to Orangeville with excellent credentials. What is most impressive is her work beyond her role as Deputy Chief. DC Leah is the Chair of Ontario Women in Law Enforcement, and member of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police. She has also won numerous awards in recognition of her exemplary service.

DC Leah’s Talks About Orangeville

Leah has lived in the Orangeville area for over 22 years. During our chat she emphasized that as a Police Officer the biggest change from her days working in Toronto to now being a part of OPS are the relationships and partnerships she has quickly developed. One excellent example was her decision, along with Police Chief Wayne Kalinski, to walk in this year’s Santa Claus Parade. It was important to her to walk along the parade route and to meet and greet the public. She didn’t want to be inside the comfort of a police cruiser waving at the crowd she wanted to be a part of it. She has presented and participated in Crime Management initiatives, Town Hall meetings, Business Association meetings and role model presentations to grade eight girls.

DC Leah believes our community has everything. She loves Theatre Orangeville and the opportunities it provides for our youth who are interested in acting. DC Leah and PC Wayne can often be spotted at our local Farmers’ Market which is a venue she enjoys visiting. According to DC Leah, we have great restaurants, lots of exciting community events, and one of her favourite activities is walking the Island Lake Trail. DC Leah stressed that there are lots of available activities for youth in Orangeville. She mentioned our excellent lacrosse program, swimming, Hawks basketball, baseball, soccer, Island Lake Rowing Club and TOYS choir.

I want to thank Deputy Chief Leah for taking time out of her very busy schedule to have a fireside chat with me. My blog is really just a very brief snapshot of Leah. Having spent over an hour in her office I can honestly say we are very fortunate to have her as part of Orangeville Police Services.
