Orangeville Ukuladies

Orangeville Ukuladies

Three years ago Lynda McDougall suggested to her fellow, retired Credit Meadow Public School teachers that they get together and learn how to play the ukulele. After a series of monthly rehearsals they decided to take their show on the road. They first performed for the Friends of Island Lake on their annual “Senior’s Day”. The seniors enjoyed a wagon ride that eventually led to the new outdoor amphitheatre where they were treated to some goodies and a live performance from the Orangeville Ukuladies.

Since that time they have received numerous requests to perform at senior homes in Orangeville and Shelburne. They have also entertained the students at Credit Meadow Public School. One of their most recent “gigs” was at the Orangeville Rotary Club’s Valentine’s meeting. The Orangeville Ukuladies played many familiar “love” songs much to the delight of those in attendance. Rotary Club President David Proctor presented them with a cheque for the Coldest Night of the Year which is a fundraiser for the Orangeville Food Bank.

The Ukuladies have participated in the Coldest Night of the Year the last two years and each year have successfully reached their goal. This year Lynda McDougall brought along her ukulele and the ladies sang while they walked and then played a few songs back at Westside Secondary School.

Each year the number of members grow as more and more retired teachers want to be part of this group of ladies who are giving back to their community in a fun and entertaining way. They will once again be performing on Senior’s Day at Island Lake Conservation Area at the amphitheatre. If you enjoy listening to old familiar songs, be sure to come out to sing along and share in a few laughs provided by the always entertaining group leader, Lynda McDougall.
