Labour Day Weekend has been a long standing tradition of Orangeville hosting its annual fall fair. I have fond memories of attending the Fall Fair as a child when it was located at the Orangeville Race Track. Students from the local schools would enter art contests and I was proud to be a consistent winner so I got to take home a ribbon.

When I joined the Orangeville Lions club we had our food booth located at the entrance to the fair so visitors often stopped on their way in or on their way out to enjoy our famous hotdog covered in cooked onions and fries. I also got to meet many of my former students which provided me with an opportunity to wish them good luck on returning back to school.

Over time the Lions decided not to participate in the fair due to several valid reasons so my visits became less frequent. I did venture out early on Saturday morning to capture a few of the fair’s highlights. The main attraction on this day was the vintage cars and trucks. From the time I arrived until the time I was leaving the cars kept rolling in. The day long forecast of sunny skies was a welcoming factor for the vintage car owners.

I strolled through the collection of antique tractors and farm equipment. The fall fair’s proud traditions are deeply entrenched with farming. The barns are full of locally grown produce, quilts and farm animals which were all being judged and awarded ribbons.

The demolition derby, tractor pull and midway rides are the probably the biggest attractions but I did enjoy the many displays in and around the barns so the fair offers something for everyone.
