Environmentally Conscious In Caledon

Is caring for the environment important to you? Then consider a move to the Town of Caledon where “going green” is a way of life.

Located in the Regional Municipality of Peel in the Greater Toronto Area, the Town Caledon was created in 1974 following the amalgamation of the townships of Albion and Caledon, the villages of Bolton and Caledon East and a portion of the Township of Chinguacousy. Today, Bolton, Caledon East, Caledon Village and Palgrave are the major centres within the town.

In 2003, the town was co-recipient of the “TVO Greenest Town in Ontario” Award because of its progressive environmental initiatives, including planning excellence, and strong community involvement. The town’s Healthy Horticultural Landscapes Bylaw, which regulates the use of pesticides, was exceptional at the time and the town continues to develop more groundbreaking environmental initiatives.

The area is the ideal place to raise a family and was twice named safest community in Canada by MacLean’s magazine. There are several recreational centres offering skating, swimming, basketball, volleyball and other fitness activities and the town also has more than 300 acres of pesticide-free park land. Over 250 kilometers of public trails are available for hiking, biking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing, as well as 105 kilometres of the Bruce Trail.

The town also owns and maintains the Caledon Trailway, which follows a railway line that once linked Hamilton and Barrie. The town purchased 35 kilometres of the abandoned line in 1989 and in 1995 it became the first designated portion of the Trans Canada Trail.

Caledon – Community First

Although the area is large, it strives to maintain its strong community ties with an annual Caledon Day celebration in October that includes a family village with children’s activities, a classic car show, craft vendors and artisans and a fireworks display. There is also a farmer’s market in Bolton each Thursday from June to October featuring fresh produce, baked goods and local meats, all perfect examples of eating locally.

The Town is spread over a large area with a total population of about 66,000 people. Elementary and secondary schools are operated by the Peel Board of Education and the Dufferin-Peel Roman Catholic School Board and there are several universities and colleges within easy commuting distance.

Caledon Real Estate

With the Niagara Escarpment, the rolling hills and river valleys of the Oak Ridges Moraine and the watersheds for the Credit and Humber Rivers at its doorstep, this Town is a natural wonderland.  Caledon Real estate is a mix of rural and urban development where you can build the home of your dreams on open acreage, buy an existing farm or become part of the neighborhood in a growing subdivision. As area experts, we can help you navigate the waters of having conservation authorities having jurisdiction on your property.  These authorities are in place to protect the greenbelt and ensure proper growth for the community for years to come.  The perfect home is waiting for you in the Town of Caledon and we would be happy to help you find it.
